Στο ερώτημα μας ο Τζον Κίρμπι, αφού ανέφερε ότι οι ΗΠΑ «έχουν μιλήσει σε κάθε έθνος που το αγγίζει η κρίση», τόνισε ότι δεν επιθυμεί να επιρρίψει ευθύνες, καθώς για όλα αυτά φταίει το καθεστώς Ασαντ.
Απαντήσαμε ότι δεν ζητάμε να δακτυλοδείξει κάποια χώρα, αλλά να μας πει εάν οι Αμερικανοί προσπάθησαν να πείσουν την Τουρκία να σταματήσει τη ροή προσφύγων προς την Ελλάδα. Είπε:
«Η Ελλάδα είναι πράγματι ένα από αυτά τα έθνη. Κι η Τουρκία είναι απολύτως ένα από αυτά. Γι’ αυτά οι ΗΠΑ παραμένουν ο παγκόσμιος ηγέτης ότι πρόκειται για την συνεισφορά κονδυλίων και πόρων για τη βοήθεια εθνών που σχετίζονται μ’ αυτό, συμπεριλαμβανομένων της Τουρκίας και της Ιορδανίας. Να ανταποκριθούν με τους πρόσφυγες που έχουν και προσπαθούν να φροντίσουν. Γι’ αυτό το πράγμα μιλούμε συνεχώς, όμως δεν θα δείξουμε με το δάχτυλο επιρρίπτοντας ευθύνη».
Σε νέο ερώτημα μας, εάν οι ΗΠΑ έχουν ζητήσει από την Τουρκία να σταματήσουν τα σκάφη που φεύγουν απ’ εκεί, από τα τουρκικά λιμάνια, και παράλληλα προσκαλώντας τον εκπρποσωπο να πει πως τελικά οι πρόσφυγες φτάνουν στην Ελλάδα κι απ’ εκεί στην Τουρκία, ο κ. Κίρμπι κάλυψε πλήρως την Τουρκία.
«Αντιλαμβάνομαι την ερώτηση. Πρόκειται για απελπισμένους που προσπαθούν απεγνωσμένα με διάφορα μέσα να δραπετεύσουν απ’ τη βία και το θάνατο και την καταστροφή των σπιτιών και της περιουσίας τους. Η πραγματική πηγή (ΣΣ του προβλήματος) είναι ο Ασάντ και το καθεστώς του κι ο συνεχιζόμενος πόλεμος στη Συρία. Μιλήσαμε γι’ αυτό κι αυτό προσπαθούμε εδώ στο Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ να βρεθεί πολιτική λύση , να βρεθεί λύση στη σύγκρουση ώστε να μπορέσουμε να τερματίσουμε τον εμφύλιο πόλεμο και τη σύγκρουση, ώστε ο κόσμος να μην εγκαταλείπει τη Συρία».
Ο εκπρόσωπος του Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ σημείωσε στο MEGA και στο Εθνος ότι αυτός είναι ο λόγος που οι ΗΠΑ μιλούν με όλα τα ευρωπαϊκά κράτη που επηρεάζονται βαθιά από την προσφυγική κρίση και συνεχίζουν να συνεισφέρουν περισσότερους πόρους. Πρόσθεσε ότι ο υπουργός Εξωτερικών Τζον Κέρι ανακοίνωσε στο Λονδίνο επιπρόσθετους πόρους για τους Σύρους πρόσφυγες και θα συνεχίσουν να αναζητούν τρόπους για ακόμη μεγαλύτερη αμερικανική συνεισφορά.
«Προηγουμένως μνημονεύσατε την Τουρκία», συνέχισε την απάντησή του ο εκπρόσωπος του Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ, «Αυτό δεν είναι γι’ αυτούς θεωρητική άσκηση. Ασχολούνται με εκατομμύρια απελπισμένους ανθρώπους στην δική τους πλευρά των συνόρων κι εκατοντάδες χιλιάδες άλλους, ίσως και περισσότερους, στην άλλη πλευρά. Είμαστε δεσμευμένοι να εργαστούμε μαζί τους προσπαθώντας να τους βοηθήσουμε να το αντιμετωπίσουν με τον καλύτερο δυνατόν τρόπο», κατέληξε ο κ. Κίρμπι.

QUESTION: John, I want to go back to the refugee crisis again, and if the United States try to stop this tragedy, especially for Greece, because this price is unbearable, as you know, for Greece. Every day thousand of refugees arrive in Greece, and because of the economic crisis, the country cannot afford this problem. My question is this: Did you talk to the Turks? Did you try to stop this refugee tide that started from Turkey? And as you may know, many of them – many children – are end up dead in the sea. I’m asking – my question is this: Did you talk to the Turks to try to stop this flowing of the refugees?
MR KIRBY: We have talked to every nation that’s been touched by this crisis.
QUESTION: Yes.
MR KIRBY: And Greece is one of them, you’re absolutely right. And Turkey is absolutely one of them. And that’s why the United States remains the world – the world’s leader when it comes to contributing funds and resources to help nations that are dealing with this, including Turkey and Jordan, deal with the refugees that they have that they are trying to care for. So yeah, we talk about this all the time.

QUESTION: No, I’m asking this.
MR KIRBY: — we’re not.
QUESTION: I’m trying to find out if you asked the Turks to try to stop this —
MR KIRBY: The —
QUESTION: — because they are – I mean, they are using – they take boats from Turkish ports, okay?
MR KIRBY: I – listen, I – look, I —
QUESTION: Who is helping them to go from Turkey to Greece and then to Europe? This is the question.
MR KIRBY: I understand the question. These are desperate people, and they are pursuing desperate means to escape violence and death and the destruction of their homes and their property. The real source is Assad and the regime and the continued fighting there in Syria. We’ve talked about that, which is why our effort here at the State Department is to get to a political solution, to get to a resolution of the conflict, so that we can do – so there can be an end to this civil war and conflict so that people don’t have to leave Syria. We want them to be able to have a home there. That’s the whole purpose here. So yes, we’re of course talking to all nations and other nations in Europe that are deeply affected by this refugee crisis. It’s why we continue to contribute more resources. The Secretary announced additional resources for Syrian refugees in particular when he was in London. We’re going to continue to look for ways, as he said there, to even increase our contributions.
But this isn’t – back to what I said before – you brought up Turkey. This isn’t some theoretical exercise for them. I mean, they’re dealing with millions of desperate people on their side of the border, and then others – hundreds of thousands, perhaps, maybe even more than that – on the other side. And so we’re very committed to working with them to try to help them address this in the best way possible.
