Opportunities for Sustainable Growth in a Circular Economy

A few days ago, the Government of Egypt hosted the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP 27), with a view to building on previous successes and paving the way for future ambition to effectively tackle the global challenge of climate change.

Despite the numerous unprecedented risks that the world is facing, climate action is more crucial than ever. It is imperative to not lose sight of the potentially devastating effects the climate crisis and biodiversity loss can have, but also of the enormous opportunities that the green transition offers, mitigating risks, creating new jobs, boosting investments, and adding value for a sustainable recovery from the global pandemic towards a Circular Economy and an inclusive society.

In this forum, Latin America and Europe come together to address the topic of Circular Economy, an innovative, practical, and sustainable way of transforming business models, value chains and consumer patterns, benefiting our environment, economies and societies as a whole. The vibrant LSE community builds a bridge across the Atlantic to promote circularity and climate resilience, using Colombia, Costa Rica and Greece as case studies. LSE Alumni Association Colombia, LSE Alumni LATAM, Hellenic Alumni Association of LSE and COLFUTURO join forces with impact investors and Circular Economy leaders such as Sporos Platform, SDSN Greece & Europe, AE4RIA and Symbiosis, to set the agenda, share knowledge, explore best practices, and trigger vital synergies across regions and industry verticals.

Many countries, from a private and a public perspective, are advancing their policies and actions for achieving their sustainable development and climate action goals. Circularity represents a magnificent future-proof tool to reach those goals. In this event, we will get a global context of the Circular Economy and describe some programs that have succeeded in Europe and Latin America. We will also take a look at the advancements and problems of the ongoing Circular transition. Finally, we will hear from important experts about the current and upcoming incentives, norms, and standards in Latin America and Europe.
